Abstract

Load-frequency control is needed for controlling frequency variation, which had been caused by several of power demands in the power plant system. The design of control system must consider uncertainty model, due to modeling error, measurement inaccurate, linear approach and effects of system disturbance. The modern control design methods concerning state space equation are Normally Robust and Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) methods. The purpose of this research is to study the stability between those methods for load-frequency control design in a steam electricity power plant with uncertainty structured. The problem of this study is the stability of those two methods for control design as stated above. The equipment of this study is the Matlab 5.1 -application program software with a personal computer and printer as supplements. For analyzing stability ratio between those methods is needed to observe the eigen values of the closed loop system. In case all of the real part of the eigen values is negative, this system is asymptotic stable. The stability ratio between those methods may also be observed in the response of Δf (t) simulation to the ΔPd (t) distutbance. The result of this study showed that by taking Qε and Rε dependent variables of the Normally Robust method the same or nearly the same with Q and R the LQR method, the Normally Robust method for load-frequency control design on the steam electricity power plant with uncertainty structured parameters able to obtain good frequency stability, while the LQR method for load-frequency control result the worse frequency stability.
