Although computers have been used widely throughout society, there are of little interest to education uses. According to some studies, most of computer uses are for word processing and spreadsheet. Computers have a great potential for use in the delivery of instruction. As computer availability becomes widespread, it is important to develop an interactive computer-assisted instruction (CAI). The purpose of this research was to develop a CAI lesson involving response repetition strategies, to evaluate some important aspects of the CAI SPR lesson, and to investigate the effectiveness of the lesson for teaching electronics. The first step of this research was to design and to develop the response repetition strategies CAI lesson using a tutorial method. The next step was to conduct an experimental study involving 30 freshman students of electrical department at vocational college of FPTK IKIP Yogyakarta. The experimental group received the CAI SPR lesson and the control group received the non-CAI SPR one. Questionnaires, evaluation sheets, and tests were used to gather data. The validity of the research instruments was established by expert judgment and the reliability was analyzed using KR-21 (rxx = 0.83). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test. The CAI SPR lesson was designed and developed based on a tutorial method in which the subject matter of electronics was presented in small units followed by some questions. The student’s response was analyzed by the computer and appropriate feedback was given. The response repetition procedures in the CAI SPR lesson were employed by providing an opportunity for the students to repeat a missed trial or question. There were 77.8 % of the students expressed that the CAI SPR lesson concerning subject matter aspect was good. The other aspects of the CAI SPR lesson such as presentation, student interaction and program interaction were expressed good by 82.4 %, 74.7 %, and 76 % of the students respectively. The students using the CAI SPR lesson scored 12.3 on pretest and 28 on posttest. The students using the non-CAI SPR lesson scored 10.3 on pretest and 22.8 on posttest. Both the pretest and posttest had maximum scores of 30. The achievement of the students using the CAI SPR lesson was higher significantly (=0.05) than those of the students using the non-CAI SPR lesson.
