Abstract

This action research is aimed at improving grade VIIB students’speaking learning process through games by using technique in SMP N 2 Gamping. This study was carried out through action research. The researcher worked collaboratively with the English teacher, the students, and the collaborator. The subjects of the research were students of grade VIIB in academic year of 2012/2013. The data of this study were in qualitative nature forms. The qualitative data were obtained through observing the teaching and learning process of speaking during the implementation, and interviewing the students, the English teacher and the collaborator. The data were in the forms of field notes, interview transcripts, and photographs. The result of this research shows that the implementation of using Games as technique was effective to improve the speaking learning process and interesting for the students in Class VIIB of SMP Negeri 2 Gamping, Sleman. The indicators of the success of the implementation are that: (1) the students could answer the teacher’s questions, (2) the students were attracted to study English, and (3) the students were familiar with English activities.
