This research consisted of two cycles. In conducting the research, the researcher involved the English teacher and students of grade VIIIB of SMP N 1 Semanu. Class VIIIB consisted of 32 students. There were 18 female students and 14 male students. In implementation of the action in this research, the English teacher acted as an observer, while the researcher acted as the action taker and the students acted as subjects of learning. The data were obtained from the observation during the implementation of the actions, interviews with the English teacher and also the students of class VIIIB and questionnaires distributed in the end of each cycle in this research. The data were in the form of field notes, interview transcripts, questionnaires and observation checklists. The validity of the data was obtained by process validity, democratic validity, and dialogic validity. Besides using those validity principles, the reliability of the data was gained by giving genuine data. The triangulation technique used in this research was time triangulation. However, the data in this research fulfilled some criteria of trustworthiness. They were credibility and confirmability. The results of this study showed that problems related to the class interaction can be reduced by applying the media in the lesson activity. There were four media applied in this study. They were picture cards, word cards, videos, and audios. However, the researcher also added games in the learning activity. By implementing those kinds of media in the English teaching and learning process, the students had changes to interact with the teacher and the other students. Besides, the students were more interested during the process. In conclusion, the use of media is believed to be effective to promote class interaction. ER -
