Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan research and development dengan desain ADDIE. Instrumen penelitian terdiri atas: observasi, wawancara, dan angket untuk uji kelayakan materi dan media 3D-VCR PLTU. Kelayakan materi dan media 3D-VCR PLTU dilakukan melalui expert judgement. Nilai koefisien uji validitas instrumen diperoleh dengan nilai index-V Aiken sebesar 0,81 – 1,00, sedangkan nilai reliabililitas sebesar 0.980-0.990. Penerapan media 3D-VCR PLTU dilakukan melalui uji coba terbatas dan uji empirik di Politeknik. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester IV Program Studi Teknik Listrik di Politeknik Negeri Cilacap sebanyak 80 orang dan Politeknik Negeri Semarang sebanyak 80 orang. Analisis data dilakukan dengan metode kombinasi (mixed method) dengan dengan exploratori. Selanjutnya, analisis data empirik dilakukan dengan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan pendekatan pretest-posttest control group design melalui t-test paired dan independent.
