Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) mengkonstruksi konstruk brahmavihāra berdasarkan kajian filosofis dan teoretis, (2) mengungkap karaketristik (validitas, reliabilitas, dan analisis karakteristik butir) instrumen untuk mengukur sikap sosial yang luhur calon guru Pendidikan Agama Buddha (PAB), (3) mendeskripsikan profil brahmavihāra calon guru PAB berdasarkan instrumen yang dihasilkan, (4) mengevaluasi efektivitas instrumen yang dikembangkan berdasarkan penilaian pengguna. Penelitian pengembangan ini meliputi tiga tahap (perencanaan, uji coba, dan pengukuran dan interpretasi). Pengujian dialukan dalam dua tahap, yakni: 1) pengujian teoretis untuk memebuktikan validtas isi dengan tiga metode: CVI, binomial test, dan assymetric score confident interval; 2) pengujian empiris dengan melibatkan 293 mahasiswa Perguruan tinggi Keagamaan Buddha (PTKB) melalui uji item discriminant, pembuktian validitas dan reliabilitas konstruk, analisis karakteristik item menggunakan Rasch rating scale model (RSM), dan deteksi social desirability bias (SDB) menggunakan Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Hasil penelitian adalah sebagai berikut. (1) Konstruk brahmavihāra merupakan cara bersikap, cara berpikir, dan cara berperilaku yang memancarkan sikap mettā (loving-kindness), karunā (compassion), muditā (sympathetic joy), dan upekkhā (equanimity) yang tumbuh dan berkembang didasari dan dibimbing oleh keyakinan terhadap hukum kamma. (2) Instrumen yang dihasilkan yakni instrumen A berupa selft report untuk mengukur keyakinan awal (amulika saddha) terhadap hukum kamma dan instrumen B berupa selft report (B1) dan lembar penilaian dosen (B2) untuk mengukur sikap sosial yang luhur (brahmavihāra) memiliki kualitas yang baik berdasarkan pengujian teoretis dan empiris. Berdasarkan pengujian empiris, kedua instrumen memenuhi kriteria indeks item discriminant; berdasar CFA, validitas konstruk dan reliabilitas kedua instrumen baik, semua item memiliki loading faktor >0,3 dan t-value >1,96 dengan koefisien omega masing-masing sebesar 0,8; 0,9; dan 0,8 dan memenuhi goodness of fit; berdasarkan pemodelan Rasch, item reliability ketiga instrumen secara berturut-turut sebesar: 0,97; 0,98; 0,84. Berdasarkan CFA, instrumen terbukti tidak rentan terhadap SDB.. (3) Profil keyakinan calon guru PAB terhadap hukum kamma rata-rata dalam kategori sangat tinggi.
