Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Jakarta dan Batam. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah 14 remaja usia 12 – 21 tahun (7 = laki-laki, dan 7 = perempuan) yang mengalami mobilitas transnasional dan pernah tinggal di Indonesia dan Negara lain setidaknya 1 tahun untuk masing-masing negara. Kriteria lama tinggal ini untuk memastikan mereka sudah cukup ter akulturasi di kedua negara dan memiliki identitas bi-cultural (dibuktikan dengan pengalaman menggunakan 2 bahasa dalam kehidupan sehari-hari). Pengumpulan data melalui wawancara terbuka, yang direkam menggunakan perekam suara digital dan ditranskrip untuk keperluan analisis, dan dengan dua protokol wawancara yang berbeda. Peneliti memberikan 10 foto de kontekstual dimana semua gambar tidak merepresentasikan pendidikan jasmani sama sekali. Foto dekontskstual adalah seperangkat foto yang dipilih oleh peneliti yang tidak memiliki koneksi langsung dengan partisipan, topik, atau setting di mana penelitian ini dilakukan. Foto dicetak dalam bentuk portrait berwarna dengan ukuran 10,2 x 15,2 centimeter). Partisipan diminta untuk memilih satu foto yang menurut mereka dapat menjadi metafora makna pengalaman pendidikan jasmani mereka sebagai orang yang pernah hidup melintasi negara. Tujuan foto dekontekstual adalah membantu para partisipan untuk menyentuh lebih jauh ketika menguraikan makna pengalaman tersebut. Manfaat wawancara foto elisitasi menggunakan satu set foto yang didekontekstualisasikan menjadi jelas untuk memberdayakan partisipan melalui proses elisitasi foto, menempatkan peserta dalam peran utama yaitu dari membimbing wawancara melalui pilihan foto dan penjelasan. Penelitian ini menghasilkan deskripsi tentang pengalaman berpartisipasi dalam pendidikan jasmani dalam konteks transnasional. Tema-tema utama seperti pengalaman lintas negara, pemanfaatan tubuh, dan dimensi jasmani dari aktivitas fisik dapat diintegrasikan ke dalam pembelajaran untuk membantu siswa memahami pentingnya aktivitas fisik dalam kesehatan dan kesejahteraan tubuh.
