This research is research and development which refers to Borg & Gall development model which consists of 10 steps, including: (1) preliminary study, (2) planning, (3), product design development, (4) initial field test, (5) product revision, (6) limited field test, (7) product revision, (8) operational field test, (9) product revision, and (10) dissemination. The data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, questionnaires, scales, and tests. The instruments used were observation guides, teacher and student interview guides, teacher and student preliminary study questionnaires, teacher and student response questionnaires, reading interest questionnaires, and concept understanding tests. The subjects of this study were teachers and grade V students of elementary schools in Cluster 6 Depok, Sleman. The product feasibility testing is carried out by materials and media experts. The data analysis techniques used were t-test and MANOVA at the significancelevel of 5%. The result of this study shows that (1) the developed comic media meets the feasibility criteria based on material expert, media expert, teachers, and students,being in a very feasible category; (2) the developed comic media is effective in promoting the reading interest and concept understanding of grade V students of elementary schools in Cluster 6 Depok, Sleman. The result of the t-test and the MANOVA hypothesis test at the significance level of 0.05 indicates that the comic media could significantly promote the reading interest and concept understanding of grade V students of elementary school.
