abstract: This research was aimed to describe the origin, the procession, symbolic meaning and the benefit of Gumbregan tradition for the society.
The nature of the research was qualitative research. The data was collected through observation, deep interview, and documentation. The research instruments used were researcher with voice recorder, camera, and stationaries. The data was validated using source and method triangulation.
The result of the shows that: 1) The origin of Gumbregan tradition was originated from the gratitude towards Sulaiman Prophet who had let mankind to keep them in their world, therefore this tradition is held to says prayer for the wellness of all animals in this world, for their safety and they will away from danger. (2) The procession of Gumbregan is divided into two parts: (a) preparing offerings, (b) the procession, namely the cattle feeding and kenduri Gumbregan. (3) The symbolic meaning of the offering describes the gratitude towards almighty God over His mercy and gifts on cattle and farming crops, also as the reminder for the spirits who have look after the cattle, it was hoped that the cattle will regenerate, healthy and away from any dangers. (4) The benefits of Gumbregan tradition for the society are : (a) spiritual benefits, (b) social benefits, and (c) tradition perseverance benefits.
