Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan yang mengacu pada 10 langkah pengembangan oleh Borg & Gall. Subjek uji coba terdiri dari 10 siswa pada tahap uji coba lapangan awal, 60 siswa pada uji coba lapangan utama, dan 92 siswa pada uji coba operasional yang terbagi dalam kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi, angket, skala, dan tes. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan independent sample t-test dan paired sample t-test dengan taraf signifikansi 0,05. Hasil penelitian adalah sebagai berikut. (1) Modul berbasis realistic mathematics education yanag dikembangkan layak digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran. Modul ini memenuhi kriteria kelayakan berdasarkan hasil validasi ahli materi dan ahli media serta penilaian guru dan siswa. (2) Modul yang dikembangkan tersebut efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan komunikasi matematis. Kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa meningkat secara signifikan berdasarkan paired sample t-test pada taraf signifikansi 0,05 (sig. 2-tailed) = 0,000 < α = 0,05.
