Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan: (1) pelaksanaan pendidikan multikultural dalam pengembangan kemampuan sosial anak usia dini, (2) perkembangan kemampuan sosial anak, (3) serta faktor pendukung dan penghambat pelaksanaan pendidikan multikultural dalam pengembangan kemampuan sosial anak di TK Hamemayu Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis fenomenologi. Penentuan informan sebagai sumber data penelitian ini menggunakan teknik purposive sampling yang terdiri atas kepala sekolah dan guru kelompok TK A dan B. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Data penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) untuk mereduksi data yang dikumpukan dari berbagai sumber data dengan cara yang andal dan akurat, kemudian ditemukan pola dan hubungan antar data. Data yang sudah dianalisis kemudian diuji keabsahannya menggunakan triangulasi sumber dan teknik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada tiga temuan. Pertama, pendidikan multikultural dilaksanakan melalui program utama dan pendukung dengan menggunakan pendekatan kontribusi. Kedua, kemampuan sosial yang muncul dan dikembangkan dalam pelaksanaan pendidikan multikultural terdiri atas sikap percaya diri, mandiri, sabar, taat terhadap aturan, peduli dan mau membantu, serta menghargai dan toleransi. Kemampuan ini dikembangkan melalui metode pembiasaan, bercerita, modeling, kegiatan diskusi, dan bermain. Ketiga, faktor penghambat dalam pelaksanaan pendidikan ini terdiri atas orang tua, anak dan sekolah.
