The methodology of this research was qualitative descriptive. The data were taken from phrases indicated as the pragmatic aspects. The objects of the research were the English version of the novel If I Stay by Gayle Forman and the Bahasa Indonesia novel translation translated by Poppy D. Chusfani. The technique of collecting the data was content analysis which done by reading and recording the phrases that indicated pragmatic aspects and included them into the aspects of pragmatics. The research instrument was human instrument and the observation sheets. The aspects of pragmatics that mostly appear sequentially in the novel are presupposition, speech act, implicature and deixis. There are eighty-four utterances indicated as having pragmatic aspects. Forty utterances are presuppositions, twenty utterances are speech acts, eight utterances are implicatures, five utterances are deixes The pragmatic shifts appear in the novel translation: eleven utterances are indicated as the pragmatic shifts, mostly because of the inappropriate words chosen by the translator.
