This study involved 60 students of grade XI of SMAN I Lubuk Sikaping in the academic year of 2017/2018 that were divided into two groups: class XI IPA 2 as the control group and class XI IPA 1 as the experimental group. The instruments for collecting data were a semi-guided and guided speaking type test that consisted of two tasks in which the topics were based on the basic competencies. The data were in the forms of pre-test and post- test scores. The pre-test was given to both groups before the treatment, and the post-test was given at the end of the treatment. Questionnaires and interviews guide were used to obtain the data of students’ speaking anxiety. During this study, the students of the experimental class were taught using communicative language teaching method of student-centered learning approach using videos, while the students of the control class were taught using conventional method and media. The data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The tests of normality and homogeneity were done before the test of the hypothesis employed. The data of both pre-test and post-test from the control and experimental classes were also compared. The result of this study showed that (1) the use of communicative language teaching method of student centered-learning approach using videos had significant effects on the students’ speaking skill. It proved from the result of the mean value of the experimental class was 85.69 and the mean value of control group was 80.0. Moreover, the result of the ANCOVA-test showed that the value of significance was lower than the significance level of this study, i.e. 0.001 < 0.05. (2) Communicative language teaching method of student-centered learning approach using video could reduce students' anxiety to talk. This can be seen from the questionnaire that 61.3% of students feel comfortable and 19.4% of students feel very comfortable to talk when they can cooperate with other students.
