This study was conducted by following the steps of ADDIE model, namely: analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating(Branch, 2009). The quantitative and qualitative data were obtainedthrough questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The quantitativedata were then analyzedby using descriptive statistics, while the qualitative data were analyzed byfollowing the steps of interactive model suggested by Miles and Huberman(2014), i.e.: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the needs analysis show that the students wanted tobe able to find out the topic of the passage as well as the main idea of the paragraph. The students needed to be exposed with descriptive texts chiefly containing the information on the popular places in Indonesia and the culture of Indonesia.Six unitsof the materials were designedby considering the needs. The tasks in each unit were organized into: schema building, authentic text, freer practice, and pedagogical task. According to the results of the expert judgment, the materials were approriate to be usedas shown bythe mean score of the following aspects: the content (3.64 of 4), the presentation (3.82 of 4), the language (3.6 of 4) and the graphics (4 of 4). In addition, based on the feedback from the students, the developed materials wereinidicated as very good materials.
