TY - JOUR N2 - This study is an attempt to look for a valid and reliable composition- measuring instrument. It is an early effort to employ a so-called T-unit, or a terminable unit, to measure students' composition competence. The study involved elementary school students in Years IV, V, and VI. The instrument was made by breaking down students' composition into smaller parts in the form of meaningful sentences. Consequently, the better the composition was, the smaller the number of the T-units was, but the longer they were. The z-score was used to assess the reliability, and the difference among the groups was calculated by the one-way analysis of variance. The findings show that the T-unit can objectively differentiate elementary school students of Years IV, V, and VI in terms of their composition competence. In other words, the T-unit can be used as an objective and reliable composition- measuring instrument. VL - 6 UR - http://eprints.uny.ac.id/4787/ JF - Litera ID - UNY4787 AV - public A1 - A.
