This was conducted at SMA\r\nNegeri 4 Yogyakarta, as one of the pilot schools in Yogyakarta to integrate\r\ncharacter education.\r\nThis research can be categorized as a case study which employs the\r\nqualitative approach. The instruments used were observation sheets and interview\r\nguides. The data were collected through observation, interview, and documents.\r\nThe subjects of the research were the English teacher of grade XI students and\r\ngrade XI students of SMA Negeri 4 Yogyakarta. The trustworthiness was gained\r\nby using triangulation.\r\nThe result of this study shows that the implementation of character\r\neducation in teaching English as a foreign language to grade XI students of SMA\r\nNegeri 4 Yogyakarta in the academic year of 2011-2012 is integrated into the\r\nplanning stage, the teaching and learning stage, and the evaluation stage by\r\ndeveloping essential virtues, including friendliness, independence, democracy,\r\nresponsibility, discipline, curiosity, perseverance, creativity, honesty, cooperation,\r\nconfidence, respect for others, interest in reading, being religious, and being\r\ncommunicative. In addition, implementing character education in teaching\r\nEnglish as a foreign language to grade XI students of SMA Negeri 4 Yogyakarta\r\ncan give positive impacts to the students’ academic achievement and the students’\r\nbehaviour: their English mastery is getting better and their characters develop well\r\nby applying the virtues to situations in real life."^^<http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#string> .
