Nurlatifah Zain\r\n06202244130\r\nABSTRACT\r\nThe aim of this study was to find out whether there is a significant\r\ndifference in reading comprehension for the students of SMPN 1 Cangkringan\r\nwho were taught using group work and who are not taught using group work.\r\nThis research was quantitative, quasi experimental research. The study\r\ninvolved 70 students which are divided into two groups. Class VIII D (35\r\nstudents) as the experimental group, and class VIII C (35 students) as the control\r\ngroup. The data were obtained by two multiple choice tests, pre-test was given to\r\nboth classes before the treatment and the post test was given after the treatment.\r\nThe hypothesis was tested using the t-test analysis.\r\nThe data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The\r\ntests of normality and homogeneity were done before the test of the hypothesis\r\nemployed. The data of both pre-test and post-test from the control and the\r\nexperimental classes were also compared. The result of the descriptive statistics of\r\nthe post-test show that the mean score of the experimental class is 26.9429 and it\r\nis categorized into high category and that of the control group was 21.1714, and it\r\nis categorized into fair category. It means that the mean scores on the reading skill\r\ntest of the experimental group is higher than that of the control group. Moreover,\r\nthe result of t-test shows that the value of significance is lower than the\r\nsignificance level of this study, i.e. 0.000 < 0.05. it means that there is a\r\nsignificant difference in reading comprehension between students who were\r\ntaught using group work and students who were not taught using group work.
