TY - THES ID - UNY41558 KW - learning KW - English KW - learning for specific purposes Y1 - 2016/08/31/ A1 - Araújo, Aniceto Jordão De PB - UNY TI - The Learning of English for Specific Purposes at STM Negeri Dili, Timor Leste AV - restricted M1 - tesis N2 - This study has six objectives, namely to reveal: 1) the profiles of STM Negeri Dili, Timor Leste, English teachers, and parties related to the English learning; 2) the English learning process at STM Negeri Dili, Timor Leste; 3) teachers? creativity in the learning of English for Specific Purposes; 4) the use of learning kits in the English learning at STM Negeri Dili, Timor Leste; 5) the government?s efforts to improve teachers? competencies, and 6) the students? educational background and characters. The study employed the qualitative descriptive method. The research subjects were English teachers, male and female students of Grades XI and XII of STM Negeri Dili, Timor Leste, and two people in charge of the curriculum, namely the Head of the Section of the National Curriculum and the Head of the Section of the Vocational High School Curriculum, the Ministry of Education of Timor Leste. The data were collected by means of an interview guideline using the in-depth interview technique, participant observation, documentation, and a questionnaire. The data analysis was done after the data were collected, through data sorting and classification, transcription in the data form, data verification and internalization, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the learning of English for Specific Purposes is not supported by the human resources? competencies, teachers? creativity, learning kits, curriculum, syllabus, lesson plans, and learning media and the learning assessment is not relevant to the procedure. In addition, the training for English teachers is not relevant, there is no improvement of welfare and performance, and the culture and environment are not taken into account in students? learning. All of them are in the very poor category. Therefore, this results in the English learning which is not maximal and there is no synchronicity between English language theories and workshop equipment. Besides, there is no contribution from related parties to the learning of English for Specific Purposes.
