"The objectives of this study were: (1) to find out the target needs of the \r\ngrade X students of senior high school, (2) to find out the learning needs of \r\ngrade X students of senior high school, and (3) to develop appropriate \r\ninteractive multimedia for learning reading for grade X students of SMA N 1 \r\nCangkringan. \r\nThis is a Research and Development (R&D) study. The subjects of the \r\nstudy were the grade X C and D students of SMA N 1 Cangkringan. The \r\nresearch procedure, adapted from ADDIE model proposed by Taylor (2004), \r\nconsisted of conducting the needs analysis, designing a course grid and a \r\nflowchart, developing the first draft of the interactive multimedia, evaluating \r\nthe first draft, and producing the final draft. The instruments to collect the data \r\nwere needs analysis questionnaire and expert judgment questionnaire. The \r\ndata from the needs analysis were analyzed quantitatively using frequency \r\nand percentage, and then the results were used as the basis to develop the \r\ncourse grid. The quantitative data from the expert judgment were analyzed \r\nthrough descriptive statistics while the comments and suggestions were used \r\nto revise the first draft to be the final product of the interactive multimedia. \r\nThe results of the analysis of target needs of SMA N 1 Cangkringan \r\nwere (1) they learnt English for mastering English; (2) their English proficiency \r\nwere on beginner level; and (3) materials presented in the interactive \r\nmultimedia were adapted based on the students’ learning needs. Related to \r\nthe students’ learning needs, the input was a text with vocabulary list. The \r\nlength of the text was between 200 - 250 words. The font that they like was \r\nTimes New Roman sizes 12 pt. The background that they like was blue. The \r\nnavigation buttons in the interactive multimedia should be completed with \r\nsound. This study developed three units of interactive multimedia. Each unit \r\nconsisted of Introduction, Main Activities, and Reinforcement tasks ranging \r\nfrom 14 to 15 tasks. The types of activities were answering questions based \r\non texts, filling in the blank, matching, dragging, and clicking the words. \r\nMost of them were designed for individual work and some were designed for \r\npair work. The result of the expert judgment proved that the interactive \r\nmultimedia was appropriate. The mean score for the interactive multimedia \r\nwas 3.23 which was categorized as “Good”."^^ .
