The purpose of this development research is to develop an audio-visual medium on ?household chemicals? for junior high schools (SMP) of grade VIII and to know the quality of the audio-visual medium that has met the criteria of media quality which has been determined. Development of the audio-visual medium was guided by the two consultants and gained inputs from media experts and peer reviewers. The research instrument was in the forms of questionnaires which contained certain aspects and criteria. The assessments were performed by 5 science teachers of public junior high schools (SMPN) in the area of Temanggung. The assessments conducted include five assessment aspects with 25 indicators. The assessment results were in qualitative data converted into quantitative data. Quantitative data were tabulated and analyzed with guidance of ideal assessment category criteria to determine the quality of the audio-visual medium. This research product was in the forms of an audio-visual medium which consisted of an audio-visual medium CD on ?household chemicals?. The medium components comprised instructions for using the audio-visual medium, standards of competence and basic competence, materials, experiments, evaluation, and profile. Based on the assessments of the science teachers, the audio-visual medium had a quality Very Good (SB) with an average score of 104.4 in a score range from 100.06 to 125. Therefore, the audio-visual medium can be used as an independent instructional medium for SMP students of grade VIII.} }
