TY - THES TI - An Evaluation of ?School of Quality? in Primary Education in Lao PDR AV - restricted KW - evaluation KW - school of quality ID - UNY30505 M1 - tesis UR - http://eprints.uny.ac.id/30505/ Y1 - 2013/05/31/ N2 - This research study was an attempt to describe the effectiveness of the ?School of Quality? approach as determined by teachers? capability indicators, students? achievement indicators, and quality education outcome indicators in primary education in Vientiane Province, Lao PDR. This research is an evaluation study that employed the quantitative approach. This evaluation research used Scriven?s summative Model. The method used is find out the effectiveness by comparing the performance of School of Quality and Conventional School. The sample of this research was purposively selected from the population. There were 259 teachers (141 from School of Quality schools and 118 from Conventional schools); there were 192 teacher teaching the general subjects (107 from School of Quality and 85 from Conventional School), 42 principals (19 School of Quality and 23 from Conventional School) and 29 teachers teaching Foreign Languages (15 School of Quality and 14 from Conventional School). There were 750 students (375 from School of Quality and 375 from Conventional School). There were 1069 students? scores (756 from School of Quality and 313 from Conventional School). There were 30 schools (15 from School of Quality and 15 from Conventional School) in Vientiane Province, Lao PDR. There were 50 students of two schools selected for the tryout of instrument participated to give information to this research study. The data were gathered through document and questionnaire, and analyzed using the descriptive quantitative techniques. The findings of this research have been summarized as the following. 1) Teachers? educational qualification of School of Quality is lower compared to Conventional School. 2) Teachers? teaching experience of School of Quality is longer compared to Conventional School. 3) Teachers? performance of School of Quality is better compared to Conventional School. 4) Students? achievement in School of Quality is better than that of Conventional School based on the mean scores among school examination, national examination, and both examinations conducted. 5) The dropout rates of School of Quality are lower than Conventional School only for grades 1 and 2, in grade 3 and 4 School of Quality are higher. However, in grade 5 where there was no difference. 6) The promotion rates of Conventional school are higher compared to School of Quality for grades 1 to 4. In grade 5, School of Quality has higher. 7) The repetition rates of Conventional school are lower than School of Quality for grades 1 to 4. In grade 5, Conventional School has higher repetition rates than that of School of Quality. In conclusion, the School of Quality approach is found effective in terms of teachers? experience, teachers? performance and students? achievement scores compared to Conventional School, but teachers? educational qualification and education quality outcomes is better in Conventional School than those in School of Quality.
