This study is a classroom action research based on McTaggart model with three cycles. The research was conducted from April to May 2015. The subject of the research was Grade VIII Students of the school. The techniques of collecting data were observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. The instruments were observation sheets, field notes, and tests. The qualitative data, which were gained through observation, interviews, and documentation, were analyzed descriptive qualitatively. The numeric data were analyzed in descriptive statistics. The results of the study show that the application of TBL is capable of improving the teaching process quality. The students showed more enthusiasm and motivation to study and work in group more efficiently to master the learning materials. The students’ writing ability in procedure texts has increased. This could be seen from the improvement of the scores at the procedure writing test. The mean score in Cycle 1 was 62. It was 5.02 higher than that in the pre-test. It, however, was still under the KKM (Minimum Passing Grade). Cycle 2, therefore, had to be conducted. The mean score of Cycle 2 was 66. Although most scores were above the KKM average, some were still below it. Therefore, Cycle 3 was conducted. The mean score of Cycle 3 was 72.78 and there were not any students who got scores under the KKM.
