The purpose of this development research is to develop an audio-visual medium on chemistry experiments on the subject matter of ?material changes? as an independent instructional medium for junior high school (SMP/MTs) students of Grade VII and to determine the quality of the audio-visual medium that had been prepared based on assessments of science teachers and chemistry teachers of SMP / MTs. Development of the audio-visual medium was guided by the two consultants and obtained input from media experts and peer reviewers. Research instrument of the audio-visual medium was in the forms of questionnaires which contained specific aspects and criteria. The assessments were conducted by 5 chemistry and science teachers of SMP/MTs teaching Science in public as well as private schools in Yogyakarta area. The assessments which were conducted included eight aspects of assessments with 40 assessment indicators. The assessment results were in the forms of qualitative data converted into quantitative data; then, tabulated and analyzed using the criteria guidance of ideal assessing category for determining the quality of the audio-visual medium. The research product was in the forms of an audio-visual medium on chemistry experiments of SMP / MTs of Grade V1I on the subject matter of ?material changes? stored on CD. The audio-visual medium consisted of 10 experiments, namely (1) sugar dissolving, (2) sugar burning, (3) the reaction of NaOH and HCl, (4) the reaction between FeCl3 and KSCN (5) reaction between CuSOa and NH40H, (6) reaction between Mg metal with HC1, (7) evaporation and condensation, (8) salt crystallization, (9) corrosion, and (10) Mg metal burning. Components of the audio-visual medium consisted of instructions of using the medium, student worksheets, evaluation sheets, the student worksheet keys, evaluation sheet keys, and profiles. Based on the assessments of science and chemistry teachers of SMP/MTs, the audio-visual medium that had been prepared had very good quality (SB) with an average score of 168.16 above the ideal score of 160.005. Therefore, the audio-visual medium could be used as an instructional medium for SMP / MTs students of grade VII. M1 - skripsi ER -
