Grade X of Senior High School}, school = {UNY}, month = {August}, abstract = {The objectives of this study were: (1) to identify the needs of grade X students of senior high school in learning English using interactive learning multimedia and (2) to develop interactive learning multimedia for ?Bahasa Inggris? for the grade X students of senior high school. The development of the interactive learning multimedia was only focused on reading and writing skills. This study is a Research and Development (R\&D) study which was conducted through the following steps: needs analysis, syllabus writing, multimedia development, expert judgment, revision, try-out, and final draft writing. The data of needs analysis were obtained in two schools, they were SMA N 1 and 2 Temanggung while the try out was only done in SMA N 1 Temanggung. The data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. The quantitative data were analyzed by using the descriptive statistics and the qualitative data were analyzed qualitatively. This study develops a three-chapter interactive learning multimedia for reading and writing which is consisted of 5 main menus, they are User Guide, Materials, Semester Review, About the Developer, and References. There are 10 tasks in each chapter organized into Warmer, Vocabulary Builder, Reading, Vocabulary Exercises, Text Structure, Grammar Review, Writing, and Reflection. The results of the try-out indicate that the interactive learning multimedia is good/ appropriate as shown by the mean value ranging from 3.04 to 3.48. The results of this study show that the appropriate reading and writing interactive learning multimedia have the following features. The interactive learning multimedia helped the students learn to communicate fluently particularly in the written form. The appropriate inputs are adapted to the students? needs, not exactly the same as the textbook. Those inputs are texts in the form of paragraph of 551-650 words long. Finding specific information from the texts, studying paragraph structure of texts, completing sentences with correct words, and matching English words with the meanings, changing the form of sentences from one grammar form to another are the appropriate activities.
