TY - THES Y1 - 2014/07/11/ N2 - The aims of this study are: 1) to find out the target needs of students of Physics Education Department in learning English for Fisika Zat Padat, 2) to find out the learning needs of students of Physics Education Department in learning English for Fisika Zat Padat, and 3) to develop interactive vocabulary learning multimedia for students of Physics Education Department in learning English for Fisika Zat Padat. This study is an Educational Research and Development (R & D) study. The model proposed by Lee and Owens (2004) is adapted and used in this research. The procedure is conducting needs analysis, design, development, and evaluation by content and media experts. The subjects of this research are the sixth semester students of Physics Education Department Yogyakarta State University in class A. Questionnaires, observation, and interview are used to collect the data. The data are analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings of this study are described as follows. 1) The sixth semester students learn English in order to read their textbooks. 2) They want to learn vocabulary about the subject of Fisika Zat Padat in chapter 4 through explicit instruction using multimedia to know the definition, meaning, part of speech, and pronunciation of the target words by match the word with its definition and its meaning, dictionary activity, guess a meaning, flash card study, match the word with its image representation, crossword puzzle game, and complete some sentences. 3) The Units developed based on the target and learning needs are appropriate based on the result of expert judgment.
