The three objectives of the study were: (1) to identify and analyze the lexical errors in translating Bahasa Indonesia-English public signs for tourism in Yogyakarta, (2) to identify and analyze the grammatical errors in translating Bahasa Indonesia-English public signs for tourism in Yogyakarta, and (3) to give suggestions to make a better translation of the public signs for tourist objects in Yogyakarta. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied in this study since it emphasized describing the translation phenomena of bilingual public signs for tourism in Yogyakarta. The data were collected in form of digital pictures of bilingual public signs taken in some of tourism places in Yogyakarta. The main instrument of the study was the researcher herself. The procedures in analyzing the data were collecting, categorizing, classifying, analysing, discussing, and reporting the data. This study made use of Nida?s Dynamic Equivalence Theory and analyzed its application to Bahasa Indonesia-English translation of public signs. Dynamic Equivalence Theory proves to be quite effective and instructive in the translation of public signs. This study reveals two findings. In terms of translation errors on lexical level there are; (1) improper diction, (2) redundant words, and (3) spelling errors. In terms of translation errors on grammatical level there are; (1) part of speech misuse, (2) word for word translation, and (3) incomplete Sentence.
