Objek dari penelitian ini adalah kemampuan adsorpsi silika gel dari abu tongkol jagung terhadap ion logam Cd(II). Tahapan penelitian yaitu pembuatan natrium silikat, pembentukkan silika gel dan adsorpsi terhadap Cd(II). Identifikasi gugus silanol, siloksan, dan gugus-gugus lain yang terikat pada silika gel digunakan spektrofotometer infra-merah (FTIR). Efektifitas adsorpsi dinyatakan oleh Cd(II) yang teradsorpsi silika gel dan silika gel-MBT.\r\nKarakter gugus fungsi silika gel setelah penambahan MBT dengan spektrofotometri infra-merah menunjukkan kemiripan dengan kiesel gel-60G. Efektifitas adsorpsi silika gel terhadap Cd(II) dipengaruhi oleh penambahan MBT. Semakin besar konsentrasi MBT, maka semakin besar efektifitas adsorpsi silika gel terhadap ion logam Cd(II).\r\n\r\nKata kunci : merkaptobenzotiazol; adsorpsi silika gel; abu tongkol jagung; ion cadmium."^^<http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#string> .
