"Discrimination towards People of Tionghoa Ethnic in Miss Lu by Naning \r\nPranoto (Literature Sociology Review) \r\n \r\nBy Arifiani Yulianingsih \r\nNIM 10210144008 \r\n \r\n \r\nABSTRACT \r\n \r\nThis research is aimed to describe the discrimination towards people of \r\nTionghoa ethnic in Miss Lunovel authored by Naning Pranoto, the causal factors \r\nof the discrimination, and the responses of Old Miss Lu and her family in \r\nhandling the discrimination. \r\nThis research data resource is the first edition of Miss Lu novel by Naning \r\nPranoto, published in 2003 by Gramedia Widiasarana Indonesia Publisher, \r\nJakarta. It is then focused into problems regarding discrimination towards people \r\nof Tionghoa ethnic studied with literature sociology, specifically literature work \r\nsociology. The data is obtained by reading and note taking technique. The data is \r\nthen analyzed with descriptive qualitative analysis technique. Data validity is \r\nobtained by validity test (semantic) and reliability test. \r\nThe research results show some points as follows. First, forms of \r\ndiscrimination experienced by Tionghoa ethnic are divided into eleven forms, \r\nwhich are: (1) Old Miss Lu was abandoned by the government through some \r\npolicies (2) the prohibition of having education for Old Miss Lu’s children in the \r\nelite school (3) naturalization for foreigners (especially Tionghoa) (4) name \r\nchanging for foreigners who are willing to be Indonesian citizen (5) blackmailing \r\nby Japan’s ally to Old Miss Lu and her husband (6) business prohibition (7) \r\nbusiness region restriction for Tionghoa businessmen (8) Old Miss Lu deportation \r\nto her native country, China (9) Oppression by Mao Zedong Red Guard towards \r\nOld Miss Lu and Pingping, her child (10) defamation and (11) murder of Miss \r\nLu’s husband. Second, the causal factors of the discriminationtowards people of \r\nTionghoa in Miss Lu novel by Naning Pranoto are divided into 4 factors, namely: \r\n(1) ethnicity factor becomes the main factor of all discriminations (2) economic \r\nfactor(3) politic factor and (4) religion factor. Third, Old Miss Lu and her family \r\nresponses in handling discrimination are divided into three parts, namely: (1) \r\nrefusal response, i.e. verbal response by not accepting some of the government’s \r\npolicies, such as name changing policy.
