TY - THES AV - restricted TI - The Effectiveness of Using Role-Play and Show-and-Tell in The Speaking Skills Learning of Grade 5 Students of Elementary School KW - Speaking KW - Role-play KW - Show-and-tell M1 - tesis ID - UNY11057 UR - http://eprints.uny.ac.id/11057/ N2 - This research aimed to investigate (1) whether there was difference of effectiveness of using role-play, show-and-tell, and lecturing in speaking learning, (2) the effectiveness of role-play, (3) the effectiveness of show-and-tell, and (4) which one was more effective between role-play and show-and-tell in the speaking skills learning of grade 5 students of SD Budi Mulia Dua Yogyakarta. This research was an experimental study. The experimental design applied the randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The independent variables were role-play, show-and-tell, and lecturing. The dependent variable was students? speaking skills. The simple cluster random technique was utilized to select the sample. The data collecting technique was a non-test conducted with an observation. The instrument of the research used was the observation sheet with speaking rubric on Likert scale. The research instruments had the content validity obtained through expert judgement. An interrater technique was used to test the reliability of the instrument. The data were analyzed by using one-way ANOVA followed by the Scheffe test. The results of the research showed that: (1) there was difference of effectiveness of using role-play, show-and-tell, and lecturing in the speaking skills learning of grade 5 students of SD Budi Mulia Dua Yogyakarta indicated by F =12.811 and p < 0,05. (2) the use of role-play technique was effective in the speaking skills learning of grade 5 students of SD Budi Mulia Dua Yogyakarta indicated by t = 5.280 and p < 0.05; (3) the use of show-and-tell technique was effective in learning the speaking skills of grade 5 students of SD Budi Mulia Dua Yogyakarta indicated by t = 2.403 and p < 0.05 and; (4) the use of role-play technique was more effective than show-and-tell technique, indicated by p < 0.05 Y1 - 2013/07/31/ PB - UNY A1 - Anwar, Choiril ER -
