Abstract

This study aims at determining influences of sugar solution concentrations to the shifting of shadow distances on a convex lens and the focal length of a convex lens with different concentrations. This study was conducted by using a convex lens with a focal length of 15 cm in the air. The solution used was sugar solution with concentrations of 0.0 M, 0.1 M, 0.2 M, 0.3 M, 0.4 M, and 0.5 M. The research results showed differences in the shadow distance and the focal length of the convex lens for each concentration of sugar solution. The relationship graphs between the solution concentration and the shadow distance’s shift showed the path that tended to increase along with the frequent increase in the concentration of the solution, so that there were impacts in the solution concentration to the shifting of the convex lens’s shadow distance in which the higher the concentration of the solution, the greater the distance of the shadow distance’s shift on the convex lens to its position measured in the sky.
