Abstract

Abstract This study aims at determining differences in textbook use in physics instruction towards students’ learning achievements in the domains of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor between the class using a natural science (IPA) – physics (Fisika) textbook entitled Gasing and the textbook from the school entitled BSE Membuka Cakrawala Alam Kelas VIII on the subject of Pressure. This study was experimental research with the design of Randomized Pretest-Posttest Control Group design. The research population was eight grade students of SMP N 4 Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta in the academic year of 2009/2010 amounted to 108 students in which the classes were divided into three classes. As the sample, two classes were chosen including 34 students of class VIII-B and 35 students of class VIII-C. the sampling was done by using purposive sampling. Class VIII-B was as the control class using BSE Tekanan and class VIII-C as the experimental class using the IPA Fisika textbook of Gasing. Before the hypothesis testing, the normality and homogeneity tests were conducted as hypothesis testing requirements. The research method used independent sample t-test. Based on the research results, it could be concluded that there were significant differences in students’ learning achievement among the class using the IPA Fisika textbook of Gasing and of BSE on the subject of pressure in the domains of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. The t-test using the program of SPSS 16.0 showed that the students’ achievement in the use of the IPA Fisika textbook entitled Gasing in the experimental class was higher than one using BSE in the aspects of cognitive and psychomotor. However, the affective aspect showed that the achievement of the class using the textbook from BSE was higher than one using the IPA Fisika textbook of Gasing.
