Abstract

This study aims at determining differences in effects of the searching and verification experimental method towards students’ physics learning outcomes in the domains of cognitive, psychomotor, and affective and knowing differences in students' physics learning outcomes in the cognitive domains. The material used in this research was Dynamic Power. This research was apparent experimental research using the program of pretest-post test control group design. The population was all students of grade X of MAN Yogyakarta I numbering 245 students. The sample was 60 students consisting of 30 students of class X-A and 30 students of class X-B. Class X-A was the control class given with the teaching using the searching experimental method. Data collection techniques were done by giving a pretest to gain cognitive initial abilities of the students, an LOKS to get the students’ learning outcomes in the realms of psychomotor and affective, and a post test to gain the data of final cognitive abilities of the students. The data analysis techniques consisted of the analysis prerequisite testing technique and hypothesis tests. The analysis prerequisite testing technique used normality and homogeneity tests while hypothesis tests used the independent sample t-test. Based on statistical tests with the independent sample t-test conducted, it was found that (1) there were differences in students’ learning outcomes in the domains of cognitive and affective in which students’ cognitive learning outcomes with verification experiments were better than ones with searching experimental method and students’ affective learning outcomes with searching experimental method were better than ones with verification experimental method while for the psychomotor domain, there was no difference found. (2) There were differences between the class using the searching experimental method and the one using verification experimental method in which the students using the experimental method of verification were better than ones who used the experimental method of searching.
