Abstract

This study aims at determining (1) the independence level of students’ learning in the physics instruction of SNBI class; (2) the ability level of problem solving in the physics teaching of SNBI class; (3) the relationship between the level of students’ learning independence and students’ abilities in solving problems in the physics teaching of SNBI class. The research method was combination of descriptive-qualitative research method and quantitative method. The research subject was the students of class IX-A of SMP N 3 Purworejo in the first semester of the academic year of 2009/2010 numbering 23 students. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires of students’ learning independence and tests. Data analysis was done by using descriptive-qualitative and quantitative techniques. The conclusions of this study were (1) the independence level of students’ physics learning of SNBI class was still low, (2) the level of students' problem-solving abilities in the physics teaching of SNBI class was still low, and (3) the level of students’ learning independence affected physics problem-solving abilities of the students.
