Abstract

This study aims at determining differences in physics learning outcomes of the teaching with guided IDEAL approach using experimental and demonstration methods on the subject of measurement at SMP N Tanjungsari. The learning outcomes cover cognitive, psychomotor, affective, and faith and god-fearing. The research was an apparent experimental study using the pretest-posttest experimental design (in the domains of cognitive, faith and god-fearing). The sample was determined by random sampling using Cohran formula. The population in this study was all students of grade VII of SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungsari and the samples were 28 students of class VII-A as the experimental class given with the teaching using guided IDEAL approach with the experimental method and 28 students as the control group given with the teaching using IDEAL approach with the demonstration method. The hypothesis testing method used was the independent sample t-test. Research results showed that there were significant differences in the improvement of students’ learning outcomes between the experimental class and the control one. The value of tcount < the value of ttable in which tcount = 2.099 and ttable = 2.000. There was no significant difference in students’ learning outcomes in the cognitive and faith and god-fearing domains between the experimental class and the control class. In the cognitive domain, the value of tcount < one of ttable in which tcount = 1.475 and ttable 0,025 = 2.000. In the domain of faith and god-fearing, the value of tcount < one of ttable in which tcount = 0.58 and ttable 0,025 = 2.000. This study also indicated that there were significant differences in students’ learning outcomes between the experimental class and the control class in the domains of affective and psychomotor except ones in the fourth activity. In the affective domain, the value of tcount < one of ttable in which tcount1 = 7,206, tcount2 = 3.986, tcount3 =6.773, tcount4 =5.690, tcount5 = 3.986 and ttable 0,025 = 2.000 and in the psychomotor domain, the value of tcount < one of ttable in which tcount1 = 5.831, tcount2 = 2.593, tcount3 = 4.719, tcount4 = 1.684, tcount5 = 2.510 and ttable 0,025 = 2.000 Key words : guided IDEAL approach, experimental method, demonstration method, physics learning outcomes Tahun : 2010
