Abstract

This study aims at determining differences of the Natural Sciences (Physics) learning outcomes between students taught using Starter Experiment Approach (SEA) and one with Verification Experiment Approach in cognitive and psychomotor domains. The research was an experimental study with a research design of Randomized Control Group Pre-Test Post-Test design by using experimental and control classes. Population of this study was all eight-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Wedi. The sample was determined by using random sampling technique including 38 students of VIII C as the control class given with Verification Experiment Approach and 38 students of class VIII B as the experimental class given with the teaching using Starter Experiment Approach (SEA). Data collection technique used tests and observations while the instruments were learning outcome tests and psychomotor observation sheets. The hypothesis testing method used was independent samples t-test. Based on the data analysis of research results, it showed that: (1) there were differences in physics learning outcomes in the cognitive domain between the students having the teaching with Starter Experiment Approach (SEA) and ones with the teaching using Verification Experiment Approach and (2) there was no difference in physics learning outcomes in the domain of psychomotor between the students learning with Starter Experiment Approach (SEA) and ones with the teaching using verification experiment approach.
