Abstract

This study aims at determining influences of extract of purple eggplants (Solanum melongena, L.) in histological structures of broilers’ livers and kidneys. This study was experimental research with Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The research population was one-day-old broilers CP 707. Samples of the research were 30 broilers. The independent variable was giving extract of purple eggplants (Solanum melongena, L.) with concentrations of 1 gram/kg of weight (K1), 2 grams/kg of weight (K2), 3 grams/kg of weight (K4), 4 grams/kg of weight (K5), 5 grams/kg of weight (K6), and without treatments (K0). Dependent variable was effects on histological structures of broilers’ livers and kidneys. Extract of purple eggplants (Solanum melongena, L.) was given by indoctrinating it to the broilers once a week, then, in day 30, livers and kidneys were taken to be the histology stocks and observed by using microscopes. Data of histological structures of broilers’ livers and kidneys were analyzed by using descriptive-qualitative analysis. Research results showed that giving extract of purple eggplants (Solanum melongena, L.) on the concentration of 1 gram/kg of weight until 5 grams/kg of weight affected on the same histological structure condition of livers and kidneys between broilers given with the extract and ones without any treatment (K0). In the livers; interlobular veins, interlobular arteries, and ductus biliverus were clearly seen; sinusoid was in the normal condition; and hepatosit cells were also in a normal condition. Meanwhile, in the kidneys, the glomerulus was in the normal condition and Bowman’s capsule was clearly seen. In addition, contortus proximal and tubulus contortus distal were clearly seen and did not lose the normal shape. Based on research results, it proved that giving extract of purple eggplants (Solanum melongena, L.) using the concentration of 1 gram/kg of weight until 5 grams/kg of weight on the broilers could not influence the histological structures of broilers’ liver and kidney.
